National Guard Bureau Alumni Association (NGBAA) Scholarship Program for 2011
The National Guard Bureau Alumni Association (NGBAA) will award academic scholarships for calendar year 2011 of $1000 each to family members of NGBAA members or personnel eligible to be NGBAA members. The awards are based on scholarship and personal achievement. NGBAA members, or persons eligible for membership, are required to sponsor their applicants, express their support, and sign their applications.
Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be family members of NGBAA members or of persons eligible for NGBAA membership. This includes sons, daughters, stepchildren, legally adopted children, spouses, and grandchildren.
- Applicants must be full-time students who are pursuing or will pursue undergraduate or graduate studies at accredited colleges or universities, vocational schools, or community colleges.
- Recipients are limited to one NGBAA scholarship in their lifetime.
Selection Process
The Scholarship committee, appointed by the President of the NGBAA, will select the applicants to be awarded NGBAA scholarships. Selection will be based on applicants' statements of their long-term goals, academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and work experience. Sponsors' participation and endorsement of their applicants will be used only to identify the level of support for their applicants' long-term goals.
Application Process
- Complete the application with a computer, typewriter, or hand-lettering in plain, block letters in ink. Applications must be complete and clearly readable. Complete the essay (a 500-words press release) on a separate piece of paper and enclose it with the application. Sponsor's expression of support may be on the application or on a separate piece of paper. Both the applicant and the sponsor must sign the application.
- The completed scholarship application and essay must be postmarked by a USPS facility on or before 31 May 2011. Mail to: NGBAA, ATTN: Scholarship Committee, P.O. Box 4294, Falls Church, VA 22044-4294. Do not send with a request for a return receipt. Also send an email to ngbaa1@gmail.com stating the date and time each application was presented at a USPS postal facility so we may send you an email confirm the date and time we receive each one.
- Scholarship recipients will be announced by 15 August 2011 We will make the awards in two sets: one for the first semester in September; a second for the second semester in January. The number will depend upon qualified applicants and funds available. NGBAA will mail scholarship award checks directly to recipients' institutions.
